Well, this is it cats and kittens!
Tomorrow, Sunday, Jan 14th, 2010, Valentines Day will mark a red-letter day for Harwich Port… I’m not saying that it will be the most proper of days, but it will be a memorable day. At 3PM (give or take), Da Gizz will start his Cork Contest count down. No, you won’t see it on NASA TV, but it will stream live global.
At this point, there ain’t too much to say… You can use the contest link above to make a comment/guess (or comment/guess on this very post for that matter) concerning the number of corks in the jug. (How many corks will fit in a ~5 gallon jug anywho???) After that, it’s all pandemonium and riot gear. Bring some pot luck, expect a free gift at the door, free beer and wine tasting, and don’t be surprised if the cops show up to bust Beelzebub. (Your fire-and-brim-stone mileage may vary.)
Look, the bottom line is simply this… The conventional wisdom on Cape Cod is that the period for truly productive human/merchant interaction is over for the next few months… The pundits say Christmas has passed and business is over… They say New Years is behind us as is the Super Bowl… Traditional Cape Cod says that deals are over… “Bunk!” says Da Gizz! Over? Why, if we let Bruce out of the cellar, he’d probably rant something like the following about things being “over“… [Warning, this clip contains VERY strong language!!!]
Over? Hell no! Nothing is over ’til Da Gizz says it is! We got us this here $2,000+ contest, and the fun is only beginning.
So… Enter, show up, and always remember…
“This situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody’s part… Well, we’re just the guys to do it!”
