Mechant Du Vin

January 24, 2012

Hi Cisco blogging cat here. Just wanted to share with you this very interesting web site about beer. Merchant Du Vin is a company that brings brands like Samuel Smith, Orval, Lindemans Lambics and many others to United States.

Mechant Du Vin

The web site has lots of information on history of featured breweries, describes beer brewing process and has other very interesting stuff. For example I didn’t know that porter was the first commercially brewed beer. It was named for the train porters who were its original servers and consumers.

See ya soon, yours truly

December 24, 2011

Merry Christmas to everyone! Thank you for reading this blog and coming to the store. Without you we wouldn’t be here. Without you me and Pancho could had never known each other. (Imagine that?!) Have fun these holidays, drink lots of alcohol so we can see you back in the store sooner than later.

Forever grateful Cisco

Winter Brews

December 17, 2011

Cisco your blogging cat here.

A few days ago I was in my cooler (that is the walk-in beer cooler) chilling on cases of beer but then I noticed some new seasonal brews. That’s what’s good about season changes – you get variety in food and drinks. I personally don’t prefer one season over another because I have A/C and heat in my house. It doesn’t matter. And if you think about it it really doesn’t matter. That’s what my friend Jimbo would say. And I agree with him.

Back to the beers.

Shipyard came out with a new winter beer called Applehead. You probably have heard about Pumpkinhead – that is probably the most popular pumpkin beer in the store. Shipyard brewerers asked people what other flavor they would like to try. And apple won. (I still like PC better though).Image

Also Mayflower Brewery from Plymouth has their winter beer out. It’s Oatmeal Stout

Well, I am going back to the cooler. See you here…

Super, Free Astronomy Software

December 8, 2011

Hey,

Cisco the blogging cat here… Every so often a feline stumbles upon a superb freebie… In this case, it’s Stellarium, a simple, intuitive astronomy program… Consider the pic below…

I took that shot around 9:30 PM on Dec 5th right here in Harwich… But what was that object pointed to by the arrow? Well, this goober knows a little about a lot, but stars etc. are null and void. Enter Stellarium… It’s an easy download, easy install, and an easy setup. Just enter your location (for Harwich, it’s 41°, 40′, 51.31″ latitude, and 70°, 3′, 44.74″ longitude.) Mess around with the interface a bit, and poof, here’s the answer…

Mystery solved… T’is Jupiter… Easy Breezy…

Stellarium offer remarkable features like date and time adjustment, planet choice, and accurate 24 hour view… This one is a winner…

Looking up by the racks…

Organic wines and catnip…

December 5, 2011

Here at Harwich Spirits Shoppe we (felines) often get asked about organic stuff. While we know a lot about organic catnip – we have a whole basket here filled with cat cuddlers (at $6 each it’s the best Christmas gift you can get for your cat). Anyway, our knowledge in organic wines area is not so deep. We don’t spend ours cuddling with organic wine bottles like we do hugging our catnip toys. So we decided to ask The Internet about organic wines and how you would chew drink them. This is what we found here:
http://articles.latimes.com/2011/jan/06/food/la-fo-organic-wine-20110106

Why isn’t more wine ‘organic’?
Sulfites are forbidden in organic products by the USDA, but most winemakers consider the preservative crucial in winemaking, so few wineries want the label.
This sounds familiar: a national consumer group is fighting to maintain organic standards against industry people who want to weaken them. But when it comes to “organic wine,” the well-meaning consumers may actually be discouraging more organic farming.

the rest

Please read the whole article, it really helped us – Cisco, Pancho and Funky – to understand that we probably shouldn’t be fooling around with organic wine bottles (we don’t really like upset stomacks)

See you by the racks

Rappelling Santa’s Beard gets Stuck… Hilarious!

December 1, 2011

Hi,

We here at Harwich Spirits Shoppe have a serious sense of humor… a very serious sense of humor… And when you see a video of Santa Clause trying to rappel from the upper deck of a mall only to get stuck when he experiences his own special ‘Wardrobe Malfunction’… Well, we just have to pass that along to you…

Howling by the racks…

Shark Eating a Black Marlin, etc…

November 30, 2011

Hi,

Cisco the blogging cat here…

Here’s an interesting video…

This is a 450# Black Marlin probably being munched by a Great White…

And here are Great Whites around Cape Cod…

Let’s be careful out there!
